New Belfast newspaper closes

A new Belfast morning newspaper has closed just a month after hitting the streets, it was announced today.

A spokesman for the owners of Daily View said circulation had not lived up to expectation.

The paper was part of Local Press Ltd, owners of the News Letter and was first published on April 4.

It sold Monday to Friday, but with four other local morning papers, including Daily Ireland and an early edition of the Belfast Telegraph, newsagents in the greater Belfast area claimed poor sales.

The future of the 17 full time staff is in doubt.

A company spokesman said: “Working within legislative requirements there may be opportunities for some staff to seek employment in the other titles published by the company.”
