Marino Institute to be independently audited

The governing body of the Marino Institute of Education in north Dublin has announced plans to commission an independent audit and organisational review of the college.

The governing body of the Marino Institute of Education in north Dublin has announced plans to commission an independent audit and organisational review of the college.

The move follows the resignation of the facility's president, Caoimhe Mairtin, earlier this week amid allegations of bullying and intimidation by the board of governors.

The board has insisted that it behaved with integrity and probity at all times and wants the allegations against it investigated fully and transparently.

However, the Irish National Teachers Organisation has claimed the independent audit is simply an attempt by the body to "buy time".

The INTO said the Comptroller and Auditor General should instead conduct an investigation into the college's affairs.
