A French yachtsman has succeeded in his attempt to break the round-Ireland sailing record.

Philippe Chomet and his crew completed their journey around the island in the Cityjet yacht at around 4.15am today.

The 60ft vessel departed from Dun Laoghaire on Tuesday and has knocked 17 hours off the previous round-Ireland record.

A crowd of well-wishers has gathered at Dun Laoghaire Harbour this morning to welcome back the boat and its crew.
