Trimble urges North's voters to support middle ground

Ulster Unionist Party leader David Trimble has called on voters in the North to support the middle ground in tomorrow's Westminster election.

Ulster Unionist Party leader David Trimble has called on voters in the North to support the middle ground in tomorrow's Westminster election.

Speaking at the UUP's final press conference before the election, Mr Trimble said voting for the extremes like the DUP would lead to more political stagnation and confrontation.

"Under our leadership, significant progress was made, but we've had a stalemate over the course of the last two-and-a-half years," he said.

"We do not believe that the parties responsible for the stalemate can resolve that stalemate. It can only be resolved by reinvigorating the centre-ground."
