Murder inquiry launched after death of Sligo shooting victim
Gardaí in Sligo have launched a murder inquiry following the death of a 26-year-old man who was shot in the town yesterday afternoon.
The victim was sitting in a van on Grattan Street at around 3pm yesterday when two men pulled up on a motorcycle.
The pillion passenger opened the door of the van and shot the driver in the head.
The victim was taken to hospital by members of his family who arrived on the scene shortly afterwards, but he died just before 10pm last night.
Gardaí believe the shooting was linked to a feud between two local families and have appealed for anyone with information to come forward.
