Taoiseach criticises Gama threat to evict sacked workers
The Taoiseach, Bertie Ahern, has criticised the Turkish construction firm Gama's threat to evict scores of its employees from their company accommodation.
On Monday, the company removed 230 workers from its payroll and told them to leave their on-site accommodation by Friday.
The workers have been involved in three weeks of protests against Gama, which they accuse of paying them as little as €2-an-hour.
Yesterday, the Irish Congress of Trade Unions urged the Government to help the employees by providing emergency social welfare payments and accommodation.
