Gardaí investigating the discovery of a body in the Royal Canal in Dublin last Wednesday have said that a football jersey may help them with their inquiries.

The Irish away-jersey was found close to the dismembered body and gardaí say this could indicate he was killed at the time of an Irish soccer match.

They have appealed to landlords to check accommodation for any tenants who may be missing and to ethnic communities in Dublin to come forward with any information.

It is not yet known where the man was from but fingerprints have been taken which will be checked against files from the National Immigration Bureau.
