Murder hunt begins after body find

Gardaí today removed the human remains discovered last night at the Royal Canal in the north inner city.

Gardaí today launched a murder hunt following the discovery of a man's dismembered body in the Royal Canal in Dublin.

The remains have been removed to Beaumont hospital where a post mortem will be carried out.

A passerby alerted officers after spotting human body parts in the water beneath a bridge off the Ballybough Road in the north inner city.

The remains, which are believed to have been wrapped in separate pieces, were found in several places in the water under the bridge.

Officers quickly sealed off the Ballybough Road from the Summerhill Junction to Clonliffe Road for the investigation.

Gardaí are appealing for anyone with information on the remains to come forward.
