New unit at Derry hospital destroyed in arson attack

Arsonists have destroyed a new kidney unit being constructed at Derry's Altnagelvin Hospital.

Police said the unit was destroyed in a malicious fire last night that was started following a break-in.

They said a group of youths were seen in the area at the time and were suspected of having started the blaze.

The kidney unit, which was being fitted out, had been due to open later this year.
