Hauliers: 'Electronic tolling must be introduced within 12 months'
Irish road hauliers have said the Government must not delay its promise to introduce an electronic system of paying for toll roads.
The Irish Road Haulage Industry Association will meet the junior transport minister Ivor Callely today to make sure that the system is introduced as soon as possible to save time and costs.
IRHA spokesperson, Jimmy Quinn, said:âTolling is a way of life going forward, and we have to address that and ensure that our people get the best possible value for money in the way that itâs done.
âWe want to ensure that tolls are collected with zero disruption â the technology is there and we donât accept a five-year roll-out for electronic tolling. It has existed in Europe for the last 10 years and thereâs no reason we canât have it in the next 12 months,â he said.
