Report: Sellafield not responsible for cancer cases

A new report shows fears that Britain's nuclear plant at Sellafield has been responsible for cancer clusters in County Louth are unfounded.

The study by the National Cancer Registry was carried out following a request from former Health Minister Micheál Martin.

Its findings indicated that the cancers found in the area are more linked to socio-economic deprivation than radiation exposure.

Harry Comber, of the National Cancer Registry, said today that the report proves Sellafield is not the most pressing health priority.
