Anti-corruption group seeks appointment of Garda Ombudsman

The international anti-corruption group Transparency International has recommended the appointment of a Garda Ombudsman with similar powers to the Police Ombudsman in the North.

In the Irish section of its latest Global Corruption Report, the organisation said an Ombudsman's office was a better route to follow than the three-man investigatory commission planned by the Government.
