The end of the second count in the Kildare by-election sees Fianna Fáil's Aine Brady and Independent Catherine Murphy battling it out for former Finance Minister Charlie McCreevy's old seat.

Already, four candidates have been eliminated.

The transfer of Independents Seanán Ó Cóistin’s and Gerry Brown’s votes has left Catherine Murphy just 66 votes behind Áine Brady.

The third count will see more than 3,000 votes accumulated by Progressive Democrats candidate Kate Walsh and JJ Carr of the Green Party being shared out.
