FG call for Martin resignation after Travers publication
Fine Gael has called for the resignation of Minister Micheál Martin in the wake of the publication of the Travers Report into the illegal charging of nursing home patients.
But the Taoiseach has made it clear this evening that former health minister will not be demoted over the findings of the Travers Report.
He said there was nothing in the inquiry to show Minister Martin failed to carry out his duties. Instead the main issue, according to the Taoiseach, is to give compensation to those who were wrongly charged.
The inquiry criticised civil servants and said that systemic failures within the Department were to blame.
