Relatives of murdered Belfast solicitor Pat Finucane are due to meet the Taoiseach Bertie Ahern in Dublin today as part of their campaign for a fully independent inquiry into the 1989 killing.

Relatives of murdered Belfast solicitor Pat Finucane are due to meet the Taoiseach Bertie Ahern in Dublin today as part of their campaign for a fully independent inquiry into the 1989 killing.

The British government has announced plans to hold an inquiry into allegations that the British security forces aided the loyalist paramilitaries who carried out the murder.

However, some of the proposed inquiry's business would be hidden from the public due to national security concerns.

The Finucane family has refused to co-operate with such an inquiry, saying they want a fully independent investigation with the power to compel witnesses and evidence.
