Greens reiterate opposition to Carranstown incinerator
The Green Party has reiterated its opposition to the municipal waste incinerator planned for Carranstown, Co Meath.
An oral hearing on the Environmental Protection Agency's plans to grant a waste licence for the facility is taking place in Drogheda today.
Speaking ahead of the hearing, Green Party leader Trevor Sergeant said the planning authorities who approved the €80m incinerator ignored health concerns.
"There's no need for this incinerator," he added, saying a zero waste strategy was what the Irish State should be aiming for.
