SF attempts to play down White House Patrick’s Day snub
Sinn Féin is attempting to play down the Bush administration's decision not to invite the North's political parties to the White House's annual St Patrick's Day celebration this year.
The US Government apparently made the decision in response to the IRA's alleged involvement in the £26.5m (€38m) bank robbery in Belfast last December.
Speaking about the matter this morning, Sinn Féin TD Caoimhghin O'Caolain said: "Gerry Adams will be in the United States…We have conduits to President Bush and to those who are critically interested and involved.
“Over the course of Gerry Adams' visit, he will of course be speaking with important leaders and political opinion-makers in the United States and that work is not in suspension."
