McGuinness to take over as president of Law Reform body

Supreme Court Justice Catherine McGuinness is reportedly set to take over from Justice Declan Budd as president of the Law Reform Commission.

Reports this morning said Mrs Justice McGuinness would take over from Mr Justice Budd when his five-year term expired on Monday.

However, she is not expected to take up the post until after Easter as the current law term doesn’t end until then.

Mrs Justice McGuinness is one of the best known members of the judiciary and has held a number of other high-profile positions.

She was chair of the Peace and Reconciliation Forum until 1997 and also led the inquiry into the Kilkenny incest case.

She is best known in legal circles for her judgements in family law cases and has been credited with developing the existing laws relating to marriage, the family and children.
