Greens seek for reform of Standards Commission

The Green Party is to table Dáil proposals today calling for reform of the Standards in Public Office Commission.

The proposals follow the ethics watchdog's decision not to further investigate Minister for Transport Martin Cullen's awarding of PR contracts to Waterford consultant Monica Leech.

Speaking about the matter this morning, Green Party TD Ciarán Cuffe said the Commission needed greater powers to investigate such cases.

"It doesn't have the clout or the power to carry out as much investigation as it should," he said.
