ESB industrial action set to hit power supplies

Power supplies could be disrupted from next week due to unofficial industrial action in the ESB.

Reports this morning said the TEEU had called the strike among network technicians and power station staff due to a row over the position of worker-director Joe LaCumbre.

The TEEU has not specified the timing or nature of the industrial action planned, but this morning's reports said it would begin with a walkout of network technicians on Friday morning.

That could lead to localised power cuts as repairs would not be carried out in the event of a breakdown.

If Mr LaCumbre's situation is not resolved, the strike action is expected to escalate from the middle of next week, with power station staff becoming involved.
