NEHB urged to resign after Frances Sheridan revelations
A group campaigning for proper hospital services in the north-east of the country has called on the executive of the local health board to resign.
The call follows yesterday's revelation that the expert recommendations made following the death of nine-year-old Frances Sheridan last year had not been fully implemented.
The young girl died from complications arising from an appendix operation carried out at Cavan Hospital.
Peadar McMahon, the chairman of the Monaghan Community Alliance, said today: "Whether it be that they cannot acquire the money from the Department of Health or for whatever reason they cannot resolve these problems, I think it's time that the [executive of the North Eastern Health Board] made a stand and that they resigned from their positions."
The Monaghan Community Alliance has been campaigning for the restoration of accident and emergency services at Monaghan Hospital, which were closed by the NEHB in 2002.
