Archbishop celebrates mass for World Day of Sick
The Archbishop of Dublin Dr Diarmuid Martin has celebrated a special Mass to mark World Day of the Sick.
During the ceremony in Dublin, Dr Martin urged ordinary people to become more involved in caring for the sick within the community.
The Archbishop said Ireland needs a new sense of “common responsibility” towards those who are ill and that they should not be “parked” in institutions.
He said there was no excuse for a non-professional health service in a wealthy country like Ireland.
Dr Martin added that people can contribute to the ongoing reform of the health system by “creating a new awareness of community”.
