70 jobs to go in Coleraine chicken plant

Seventy workers at the Coleraine Farm Fed Chickens processing plant are losing their jobs, Britain's Transport and General Workers Union said tonight.

Staff had been told the workers, part of a workforce of 350, were being paid off because an order had fallen through, said the union.

The union’s Gareth Scott said they were worried about both those going and the remaining staff.

“Coleraine is a high unemployment area and it will be particularly difficult for them – that is why it has come as such a shock to those workers, it will be a difficult time for them.”
