VHI underpaid patients over eight years

VHI Healthcare is to make refunds totalling €420,000 to over 11,000 patients.

An internal review has revealed members were underpaid for certain treatments in two Dublin Hospitals, Blackrock Clinic and the Mater Private over an eight year period.

Patients affected are to be reimbursed immediately.

Chief Executive of VHI Healthcare Vincent Sheridan has said: “This was brought to our attention because of a trawl the Health Insurance Authority was doing of the market.”

“They made a query in relation to our Plan A.”

“Now on the foot of that when we found there was a problem I instigated a complete review of all our products going right back to 1996.”
