Ahern acknowledges public response to tsunami disaster
The Taoiseach Bertie Ahern has acknowledged the Irish public's generous response to the St Stephen's Day tsunami disaster in the Indian Ocean.
Speaking in the Dáil last night, Mr Ahern also conveyed the condolences of the Government to the relatives and friends of the two Irish people confirmed dead following the disaster.
27-year-old Dubliner Eilis Finnegan and 32-year-old Conor Keightley from Co Tyrone were both killed when the giant wave struck Thailand, where they were holidaying.
