Postal disruption likely due to SDS stand-off

Disruption to postal services is likely from later today due to a stand-off between An Post and the Communications Workers Union (CWU) over the closure of the company’s SDS subsidiary.

The CWU has threatened to engage in industrial action from noon today unless 68 workers at the parcel delivery service are reinstated to their jobs.

The workers were suspended on Monday for refusing to co-operate with the winding down of SDS operations ahead of the closure.

The CWU has accused the company of seeking to implement the closure without reaching agreement on the matter with staff representatives.

An Post, meanwhile, has accused the union of acting belligerently and of putting the company in jeopardy and has insisted that it will not be reinstating the suspended workers.
