The Oireachtas communications committee is due to meet technical and medical experts today to discuss the possible effects of mobile phone radiation on young children.

The meeting was arranged after the British Radiological Protection Board (BRPB) warned that children under the age of eight should not use mobile phones due to health fears.

However, the BRPB also said it could find no hard evidence to show that mobile phones damaged health.

Speaking ahead of today's meeting, Fianna Fáil TD Noel O'Flynn, the chairman of the committee, said he hoped the experts would help map out future government policy on mobile phone safety.
