Gardaí in Dublin have launched a murder inquiry after a post mortem revealed that the 49-year-old man found dead in a flat in Rialto on Wednesday night had been the victim of an assault.

The post mortem found that father-of-six Thomas Brady, whose body was found in a flat in Dolphin House, had died from serious head injuries.

Gardaí said last night that Mr Brady was an upstanding member of the local community and they had yet to establish a motive for his killing.

They also said there were no signs of a break-in at his flat.
