Policing Board to be asked to approve PSNI station closures

The North's Policing Board is expected to be asked this week to approve plans to close down almost half of all police stations.

The plan to close 60 of the 135 stations over the next five years is expected to be put before the board on Friday.

Unionists are expected to vehemently oppose some of the planned closures.

But the SDLP is in favour of the move, which it believes is part of a necessary transition from the barracks-style policing of the past to the community policing of the future.
