Ice leads to treacherous driving conditions

Motorists have been warned to drive with extra caution this morning due to icy conditions in all parts of the country.

Snow fell in many areas, particularly in Connacht, Ulster and north Leinster, as temperatures plummeted overnight.

Strong winds also battered parts of the north and west with gusts of up to 70mph.

The AA said the worst driving conditions this morning were on the N7 at Roscrea, Co Tipperary, the M1 southbound from Dundalk, the Cork to Killarney road and the Baltinglass to Blessington road.
