Boy dies in gravel-pit tragedy

A 16-year-old boy has died in a quad-bike accident in Co Westmeath.

A 16-year-old boy has died in a quad-bike accident in Co Westmeath.

He and another teenager were playing on the bike at a gravel pit in Cumminstown, Kilbeggan when a large quantity of sand fell on him.

The accident happened at around 5pm yesterday evening.

A search immediately began and the emergency services were called to the scene.

He boy was pronounced dead at the scene. His body was taken to Tullamore Hospital.

The boy's name has not been released until all his family have been informed.
