Dermot Ahern to attend EU summit on south Asia aid efforts

Foreign Affairs Minister Dermot Ahern is due to represent Ireland at an EU summit today to discuss the relief operation in south Asian following the tsunami disaster.

Foreign Affairs Minister Dermot Ahern is due to represent Ireland at an EU summit today to discuss the relief operation in south Asian following the tsunami disaster.

EU foreign ministers are meeting in Brussels to devise a programme for channelling EU aid to the affected countries.

Mr Ahern is also due to travel to south-east Asia tomorrow to visit the stricken region.

He will be accompanied by the heads of a number of charities and will be making stops in Thailand, Indonesia and Sri Lanka.
