Murdered son's father charged with gun, ammo possession
The father of a Limerick man brutally murdered in the city a year and a half ago has appeared in court charged in connection with possession of a shotgun and ammunition.
Michael Mc Namara, (aged 44), Old Clare Street, Limerick appeared before a special sitting of Limerick District Court today following his arrest in the city at the weekend.
It is alleged that gardaí recovered a double-barrelled, sawn-off shotgun and four rounds of ammunition during a search of Mr McNamara's van last Saturday night .
The 44-year-old was stopped by gardaí at around 9pm in the Lee Estate area of the city during a routine garda patrol.
Mr McNamara was arrested and charged at a special sitting of Limerick District Court today where Judge Terence Finn remanded him in custody until January 6 next.
During the brief court hearing, it was claimed that Mr McNamara feared for his family's safety.
His son Michael Campbell-Mcamara was brutally murdered in the city in 2003. The 23-year-old was abducted and bound and gagged before he was murdered and his body left in a field near Southill on October 20 that year.
