GOAL appeal for skilled personnel for Asia disaster
Agencies in the Asian disaster region say they need qualified personnel to help manage the huge emergency operation.
Here in Ireland, GOAL has called on the Government to send an Irish army contingent to help out.
However the Minister for the Environment, Dick Roche, is being urged to facilitate skilled local authority staff, who may want to volunteer their services to help with the aid and reconstruction efforts in Asia.
Bill Carey, of the General Council of County Councils, said that their engineers, fire and civil defence officers have exactly the experience required.
