Man quizzed over guns seizure

A cyclist was being quizzed by detectives today after guns and ammunition were seized at a garda checkpoint in west Dublin.

The man, in his late teens, was stopped while cycling in the Clondalkin area at around 1.45am this morning.

He attempted to escape on foot but was arrested a short distance away on Shancastle Crescent. Officers found two firearms and a quantity of ammunition in a bag he was carrying.

The man, who has an address in the Clondalkin area, was taken to Lucan Garda Station under Section 30 of the Offences Against the State Act for questioning.
