The Department of Justice is reportedly investigating allegations of intimidation, assault and sub-standard care in some state-funded accommodation centres for asylum seekers.

Reports this morning said some of the claims under investigation included intimidation, assault, staff spitting on food and residents being moved from accommodation centres without explanation after making complaints.

Details of the allegations are reportedly contained in leaked correspondence between refugee support groups and the Government’s Reception and Integration Agency, which is responsible for housing asylum seekers.

This morning’s reports said some of the allegations had resulted in garda investigations, while at least one was due to come before the courts shortly.
