Objectors fail to halt Meath incinerator in court

Objectors to a proposed incinerator in Co. Meath have failed to have planning permission for the project overturned by the High Court.

The 'No Incineration Alliance' had applied to the High Court to overturn the decision of An Bord Pleanala who granted planning permission for the incineration project in March 2003.

The case against An Bord Pleanala claimed that Ireland had not adopted EU environmental impact legislation correctly into Irish law.

However, Mr Justice Smyth ruled Irish law was entirely consistent with the requirements of EU law and the decision of An Bord Pleanala was fully compliant with both Irish and EU law.
