Union claims An Post exaggerated SDS woes

A meeting of the board of An Post at the GPO this morning takes place against a backdrop of a protest by SDS workers, who claim the company has exaggerated financial problems.

270 jobs are being shed with the closure of the SDS parcel delivery service due to financial losses of €20m.

However, the Communications Workers Union has claimed An Post management overstated the company’s losses, based on the findings of its own specially-commissioned consultants report.

The Union's Deputy General-Secretary, Terry Delaney, is confident SDS is still a viable entity. He said: “We would be hopeful that the Government would look at it again, particularly in the light of the financial report issued by the union.”
