Indaver calls for EPA clarification of waste licence

Indaver has called for a clarification of the conditions attached to the company’s draft waste licence for its planned waste management facility in Ringaskiddy in Co Cork.

The company says that while the draft licence is workable, it would have to raise an objection to the EPA in order to ensure Indaver will be compliant with the licence.

One of the conditions attached to the draft licence limits the types of waste accepted at the facility based on pollutant concentration contained in the incoming waste.

“Such a condition does not recognise fully the capabilities of the state-of-the-art gas cleaning system to be installed in the facility," said John Ahern, general manager of Indaver Ireland.

He said the current wording of this condition would mean that waste, which could be treated at the facility, would have to be exported to other European incinerators.

"This would be against the principle of self-sufficiency which Ireland is trying to achieve in waste management.” Mr Ahern added.
