Health officials blame hamburger for CJD case

Health officials investigating the country's first case of variant CJD believe the victim contracted the brain disease from eating a hamburger.

Doctors believe the 23-year-old consumed the contaminated beef around eight years ago, but the source of the beef has not yet been established.

Fine Gael's Agriculture spokesperson, Denis Naughton, has called for changes to the current labelling system.
