Restaurants' Association calls for VAT reduction

Restaurateurs have called on the Government to reduce VAT on meals to make it more affordable to eat out in Ireland.

The Restaurants' Association of Ireland also called for excise duty on still and sparkling wine to be cut by at least €1.

President of the RAI Aidan MacManus claimed current tax rates mean the Government makes five times the restaurant's net profit on an average meal.
