Anti-war groups to hold Fallujah vigil outside US Embassy
Anti-war activists are due to hold a vigil outside the US Embassy in Dublin this evening in protest at the US military assault on the rebel-held Iraqi city of Fallujah.
US soldiers mounted a ground attack on Sunday night in an effort to recapture the city ahead of Iraqi elections scheduled for January.
Speaking ahead of this evening's protest, Brendan Butler from the NGO Peace Alliance said the attack on the city was a war crime as civilians would undoubtedly bear the brunt of the suffering.
"You can't just indiscriminately attack a city of civilians. That is a war crime under the Geneva Convention," he said.
