No instant solution for A&E problems, admits Harney
Minister for Health Tánaiste Mary Harney has warned that there are no quick-fix solutions to the overcrowding crisis in A&E departments.
The Tánaiste held talks on the problem with the newly-formed lobby group "Patients Together" today.
Ms Harney said there were no instant solutions to the overcrowding problems but added that she understood the concerns of the lobby group.
"I am determined to ensure that we put in place a range of measures that will change the patient experience of those going through accident and emergency services." said Ms Harney.
Patients Together spokesperson Janette Byrne confirmed that the group was disappointed with the outcome of their meeting with the minister.
"Long-term changes are no good for people currently waiting on trolleys", she said.
