Indaver counter O’Dea’s incinerator comments

Comments by Minister for Defence Willie O'Dea that the Cork site for a controversial incinerator were not in his opinion "appropriate" for the waste facility have prompted the company behind the plan to counter that neither the local naval base nor the marine college opposed the planning application.

A company spokesperson said: "Minister O’Dea did not give a reason for why he thought the site was inappropriate. However, An Bord Pleanála, the Health & Safety Authority and the EPA all believe that it is an appropriate site. These are the State Agencies with the necessary expertise required to adjudicate on these matters."

"The company accepts that it would be very difficult to find a site for any type of waste facility that everyone would think was appropriate."
