Three arrested after explosives and firearms find in Belfast

Police in north Belfast have arrested three people following the discovery of an explosive device and a firearm in separate houses on Kildare St ast night.

A man was arrested following the discovery of the explosive device, while a man and woman were arrested in connection with the seizure of the firearm.

Meanwhile, two pipe bombs and a quantity of bullets were also found following a separate security alert in the Mountpottinger area of east Belfast last night.

The devices were found at the rear of a property on Mountforde Drive. Several houses were evacuated while bomb disposal experts carried out a series of controlled explosions.
