Anti-war protestors march to entrance of Shannon Airport
Gardaí out-numbered protesters taking part in a peace walk at Shannon Airport this afternoon.
The peace activitists, who set off from Shannon Town centre, were stopped at the entrance to the airport building.
Damien Moran of the Dublin Catholic Workers, who organised the walk, said they believe Shannon is becoming too dependent on US war activity.
“We believe that Shannon Airport has been militarised, and increasingly it is dependent on US military and various munitions of war passing through. Ultimately, the vast majority of these weapons and young soldiers are going to a theatre of war where they are being maimed and killed and injured, and they are actually maiming and injuring and killing innocent people in Iraq,” he said.
