The SDLP says the rejection by the two main Unionist parties of any power-sharing deal in a local council shows the DUP cannot be trusted.

The DUP and UUP last night joined to reject a call from SDLP Councillor Brian Hanvey for power-sharing in Castlereagh Borough Council.

Councillor Hanvey said the failure to introduce power-sharing at a local level shows the futility of trying to reach agreement on a governmental level.

He added that the public will have to look at the outcome of last night’s debate and decide whether that is the kind of politics they want.
