Parlon announces aid for flood victims

Public Works Minister Tom Parlon has said that his officials are assessing flood damage around the country with a view to providing financial aid.

Minister Parlon told the Dáil that each hardship case will be judged on its individual merits.

Large areas of the south and east have been hit, with Mallow and Fermoy in Co Cork flooded in parts this evening.

The Minister said that a system for aid provision is already in place but “the policy in implementing humanitarian aid schemes is to provide humanitarian assistance to relieve hardship arising out of damage to people’s homes. It has not been the practice to include assistance to businesses in these schemes.”
