Tánaiste introduces registration system for health professionals

The Minister for Health Tánaiste Mary Harney has introduced a new registration system for health and social professionals.

The Tánaiste said that these new measures are to ensure that the public can be guided, protected and informed and can be confidant that they are being treated by qualified, competent professionals.

The Bill published today is the first of three which will deal with 12 professions ranging from dietician to psychologists.

Further legislation will follow covering nurses and other medical practitioners.
