A garda is recovering this morning after he was shot in the hand during a raid at a filling station in the Finglas area of Dublin last night.

A garda is recovering this morning after he was shot in the hand during a raid at a filling station in the Finglas area of Dublin last night.

Three raiders entered the station on North Road some time after 10pm and tied up the attendant before trying to break into the safe.

However, they were interrupted by gardaí and fled the scene empty-handed in a car that was later found burned out in Swords.

One of the raiders fired a shot at gardaí during the incident, hitting one officer in the hand, but his injuries are not believed to be serious.
